Tony Louie, a Sinixt singer-songwriter-poet on Monday, April 20 in Block C.

Attendance and theatre by 12:30pm

Sinixt singer-songwriter Tony Louie presents live music, spoken word poetry, and Sinixt language. Rooted in Sinixt identity and territory, this performance will center land-based storytelling, cultural resurgence, and the revitalization of Indigenous voice through artistic expression. He specializes in Country roots and blues.

New Agers

People who follow modern spiritual or alternative belief systems, often focused on personal enlightenment or non‑traditional healing.
In the novel, they are often portrayed as disconnected from Indigenous realities, sometimes appropriating culture.

Appropriate

To take something for one’s own use, often without permission or proper respect.
Important in the story when discussing cultural appropriation of Indigenous traditions.

Commodity

Something that is bought, sold, or used as a resource for profit.
In The Marrow Thieves, Indigenous bodies and marrow are treated as commodities, which emphasizes dehumanization.

Siphon

To draw off or take something gradually or secretly.
Used to describe how resources, power, or even life itself are taken from others.
